It all started with some night classes at UC Berkeley and the trip to the campus bookstore one night in 1999. Talk about sticker shock! Textbooks had been expensive but since graduation a few years ago they have gone ballistic. This started the hunt for cheap textbooks. Sites like Amazon, Half and B&N provided rewarding results but launching the site, entering search terms and reviewing results was very time consuming. There had to be a better way to find cheap textbooks.

The result was a Java desktop app that populated a entered ISBN to a set of buttons allowing instant access to each book seller, directly to the textbook of interest. I found this instant, real time, access of each textbook sellers site easy to use, up to date and the best way to find textbooks, especially used textbooks. One click access to every textbook site and live results of pricing and availability.

The next step came when I kept running out of disks to pass the app to classmates and decided to turn it into an online web page in 2002. I have continued to expand the service with bigger and better data feeds. The site now queries over 50 textbook sellers looking for pricing for new, used, eBook and international versions.
